Translating Research Through Visual Storytelling

I provided visual and digital communications support for researchers and their teams, translating complex research and technical information into engaging visual stories. THE CHALLENGE Research communications often involve highly technical information that can be difficult for general audiences to understand. Researchers needed communications that could accurately represent their work while making complex concepts more approachable and engaging beyond the research environment. THE APPROACH I worked directly with researchers and communications leadership to understand the subject matter and determine the most effective visual approach. My work included: ∘ Graphic design and visual identities. ∘ Digital and print communications. ∘ Photography. ∘ Video and multimedia. ∘ Website content. ∘ Social media assets. ∘ Branded communications for research initiatives. I also produced at least 10 research-focused videos, translating technical subject matter into visual stories through pacing, sequencing, visuals, and narrative structure. I supported communications for at least five research teams, adapting the approach to different subject areas, audiences, and channels. RESULTS ∘ At least 10 research-focused videos produced. ∘ At least five research teams supported. ∘ Visual identities and branded communications developed for research initiatives. ∘ Researchers gained additional ways to communicate through visual and digital channels. ∘ Complex technical information translated into more accessible visual storytelling. WHAT I LEARNED Effective visual communication begins with understanding the subject matter and the audience. The goal isn't simply to make information look better. It's to find the right way to help people understand it.
